Hotel Perula stands in the Binbirdirek neighborhood of Sultanahmet — one of the most historically layered districts on earth. The very ground beneath the hotel has witnessed the rise of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires. Just steps away sits the 4th-century Binbirdirek Cistern, the second-largest underground reservoir of ancient Constantinople, built by a Roman senator to supply the Great Palace. Peykhane Sokak, our quiet street, once served as a passageway connecting the Hippodrome to the residential quarters of the old city. When we opened our doors in 2011, we didn't just build a hotel — we became part of a story that stretches back over 1,600 years.
A Boutique Concept Born from Tradition
Hotel Perula was designed from the ground up as a luxury boutique experience that honors its surroundings. The architecture blends classical Ottoman forms — arched doorways, warm stone, intricate geometry — with clean, modern interiors. The walls throughout the hotel display carefully curated photographs from the Ottoman Empire era, turning hallways and common areas into a living gallery. These images are not decoration; they are deliberate choices that reflect the culture, craft, and daily life of the civilization that shaped this neighborhood. Guests often tell us that walking through the hotel feels like stepping between two centuries — and that's exactly the experience we set out to create.
The Terrace & Culinary Experience
Our rooftop terrace is where the Perula experience reaches its peak — literally. From here, guests look out across the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, the shimmering Sea of Marmara, and on clear days, the silhouette of the Princes' Islands. Every morning, a generous Turkish buffet breakfast is served on the terrace, featuring homemade pastries, regional cheeses, olives, fresh produce, and traditional dishes that rotate daily. In the evenings, the terrace transforms into an à la carte dining venue where the food is matched only by the view. Many of our guests describe breakfast on the terrace as the single most memorable moment of their Istanbul trip.
